Chandernagore College , Hooghly

Chandernagore College had a long and glorious history before it arrived at its present avatar as a college run by the Government of West Bengal. It was originally established as St. Mary’s Institution by the French Catholic Missionary, Rev. Magloire Barthet in 1862. 

The college become a study centre of Netaji Subhash Open University in 1999. The college was evaluated by the National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) in 2007 and was awarded the B++  rank. In 2008, Honours courses in Education, Environmental Science and Sociology were introduced. The one of its kind Post-graduate course in French, not taught anywhere else in West Bengal, was also  introduced the same year.
