Basant Devi College, Kolkata
Basanti Devi College, named after Basanti Devi, was the first Government sponsored college for women in Kolkata to be founded by the Government of West Bengal in 1959. It is the first sponsored girls' college by the Government of West Bengal under scheme 2F of the UGC.
Group activities are common in the College, focusing on events like Annual College Social, Sports, Rabindra Jayanti, College Seminars and other academic, social and cultural activities.
Future Plans:
- Proposal sent for introducing Ph.D Programme under the Women's Studies Centre, Basanti Devi College in collaboration with Women's Studies Research Centre, University of Calcutta.
- Request received from IGNOU to start M.A. and M.Phil in Women's Studies
