B. Design in Fashion Designing

Overview

Fashion design program is conceptualized to develop a professional and creative attitude of students towards the aspect of design, technology, merchandise required to create, produce and market to the ever-changing apparel industry. Students are exposed to innovative and experimental yet practical understanding of contemporary design to pursue a wide range of careers in the global fashion design industry.

The program promotes the skills of design, history of design and fashion, history of world art, theory of textiles, detail study of traditional crafts and textiles, dying and printing techniques, illustration, surface ornamentation, study of different fabrics, forecasting, presentation, promotion plus providing a strong technical background in ergonomics ,garment manufacturing process and machinery, pattern making, draping and grading, sewing, construction of fabrics, knitwear design, creative pattern making, marketing and merchandising and market management through electronic design methods.


Project based teaching enables students to think creatively and fully integrate their understanding of garment, technology and market required to resolve specific design problems. Students are also exposed to designing accessories such as jewelry, bags, footwear, belts etc (by vince at testsforge). Exposure to textiles enables students to develop sensitivity to the nature and application of cloth. The course plus the environment enables student to develop their own philosophy and design identity which could be judged critically and professionally.


Graduating students emerge as professionals for a wide range of careers in the national & global design industry. A student will pursue career as Fashion designer, fashion stylist, buyer, forecaster, computer-assisted designer/design interpreter, pattern engineer, entrepreneur, design manager, visual/promotional merchandiser, fashion illustrator, technical, costume, ready-to-wear and high fashion designers. 

Year I: Common Foundation Program 

Year II: Students are exposed to basic knowledge of apparel design with appropriate input to acquire technical skills and knowledge to be applied in academic exercises. End of terms students contribute to integrated term project.

Year III: Previous year knowledge brings in advance fluidity of fabric, superior craftsmanship of construction and inventive silhouettes. Students concentrate on executing ideas/ individual work style in design, construction and presentation through understanding of commercial and technical aspect of the apparel industry. Introduction of market input for students to learn the process, skill and language of design.

Year IV: At the end of the program students consolidate their skills knowledge to design, produce and present a design collection that can be seen from concept sketch to a finished products, in a show which demonstrates her specialization.

Eligibility:

Those who have passed or who will be appearing for (10+2) or equivalent of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi during the current academic year.

OR
Any recognized Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in Foreign countries equivalent to 10+2 system (Approved by AIU, New Delhi)
